  • The UA has hired a well-regarded California scientist to head its efforts in proteomics, the science of identifying and characterizing cell proteins.

    Paul A. Haynes, a researcher who most recently directed proteomics research at a San Diego biotechnology company, has been named director of proteomics for the UA's Institute for Biomedical Science and Biotechnology, or IBSB.

    Haynes starts at the institute in June.

  • With more than 100,000 square feet of laboratory and office space, the new Institute for Biomedical Science and Biotechnology headquarters at the corner of Helen Street and Warren Avenue, will be able to house more than 300 faculty, research scientists and support staff.

    About 45 percent of the laboratory space is already been assigned for researchers in the $65 million project, known as the Thomas W. Keating Biosciences Research Building.

    Keating, a member of the IBSB Business Advisory Board, donated $10 million towards completion of the project.
