Engaging K-12 students

BIO5 develops and supports life science outreach programs that provide K-12 students with exciting, hands-on experiences. Each year, these programs reach more than 30,000 students across Arizona.

Insect Discovery provides classroom visits and hands-on workshops for elementary school students throughout Tucson. The standards-based program uses insects to teach biological concepts such as diversity, behavior and adaptation. Visit the Insect Discovery Website

The BIOTECH Project provides teacher training, classroom visits and resource and equipment support to middle and high school teachers (state-wide) integrating biotechnology into their curricula. Visit The BIOTECH Project Website

BIO5 supports two NSF-funded GK-12 (Graduate Fellows in K-12 Education) programs that partner science graduate students with K-12 educators:

BIO5's high school internship program offers talented students opportunities to conduct research in life sciences laboratories at the University of Arizona.
